On the 1st of June Jason decides to sell his grandfather’s antique clock. He places an advertisement in the local paper, The Sunday Times, stating ‘One Antique Russian Blue Clock for sale. 500 or nearest offer welcomed.’ He includes his contact details such as telephone number, email address and postal address on the advertisement.
On the 2nd of June, Jason’s sister, Kate emails him saying, ‘I would like to buy the antique clock for £400.’ Jason replies saying, ‘You can have it sister, if you pay £450. Please let me know if you are interested by 1pm today.’
Kate immediately emails back asking if Jason will accept payment by cheque. By 12.30pm, she has not heard from Jason, so sends a further email to say she will buy the clock for £450. Jason’s internet modem is faulty that afternoon and he does not get this email until the 6th of June.
On the 3rd of June, Maria calls Jason and says she will buy the clock for £350 but Jason says he would not take less than £450. Maria says she will think about this. Later that day, Maria writes to Jason saying she will pay £450 but the letter is misaddressed and never arrives.
On the 4th of June, Jason sells the antique clock for £500 to his close friend, Justin.
On the 5th of June, Justin who is also a friend of Kate, met her at a mall nearby. Justin tells Kate about his luck in getting the antique clock from Jason. Kate is furious because she always wanted to have her grandfather’s antique clock.
