Learning Outcome/s:

  1. Analyse raw data to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that support business decisions and strategies.
  2. Produce the analytics findings through Dashboards to monitor key business metrics and decision-making.

Instruction

You are tasked to form a group of 4-5 members to design an EXCEL DASHBOARD from the data provided. The guideline below can be used as a reference.

Scenario

The Superstore Sales data provides sales data for a fictional retail company, including information on products, orders and customers. It covers Customer IDs and Order ID for identification, meanwhile Discount, Sales, Shipping Cost and Profit Amounts in USD for transaction value. Details like Segment, Category, and Region provide insights into product preferences and regional trends. Now, it’s your job to present this data compellingly.

Column Descriptions

  1. Order ID: A unique identifier assigned to each order.
  2. Order Priority: The level of urgency assigned to processing and fulfilling a customer’s order.
  3. Discount: A reduction in the original price of a product, offered to customers as an incentive to purchase.
  4. Unit Price: The cost per single unit of a product.
  5. Shipping Cost: The total expense incurred in transporting goods from one location to another.
  6. Customer ID: A unique identifier assigned to each individual customer, facilitating tracking and analysis of their shopping behavior over time.
  7. Customer Name: The full name of a person who purchases a product.
  8. Ship Mode: The method or speed of shipping used to deliver goods.
  9. Customer Segment: The category of customer based on the type of organization or business size they belong to.
  10. Product Category: The broad classification or group to which the purchased item belongs (e.g., Office Supplies,Technology, Furniture).
  11. Product Sub-Category: A more specific classification within a broader Product Category (e.g., Pen and Art Supplies, Chairs and Chairmats, Office Furnishings).
  12. Product Container: Refers to the packaging or the form in which a product is stored, transported, or served.
  13. Product Name: The specific name given to a product to identify it and differentiate it from others.
  14. Country: The geographic location associated with a customer.
  15. Region: Refers to a specific geographic area within a country, often used to categorize customers.
  16. State or Province: A subdivision of a country, used to organize geographical areas.
  17. City: A specific urban area within a State or Province, used for identifying customer locations.
  18. Postal Code: A Postal Code (also known as ZIP Code, PIN Code, or postcode) is a series of letters, numbers, or both, assigned to specific geographic regions for product delivery and location identification
  19. Order Date: Refers to the date when a customer places an order for a product.
  20. Ship Date: Refers to the date when a customer places an order for a product.
  21. Profit: The profit generated by the product purchased.
  22. Quantity ordered: Refers to the number of units of a product requested by a customer in a single order.
  23. Sales: The sales revenue for the product purchased.

Step #1 – Data Selection and Descriptive Statistics

Download the dataset – Superstore Sales – in CN.

  1. Show the frequency distribution table for 5 different variables related to your area of interest.
  2. Based on Question 1, select ONLY one variable and show the calculations on the measure of central tendency (Mean, Mode, and Median) and measure of dispersion (Variance and Standard Deviation). Use a new tab for each different variable.
  3. Find the CORRELATION coefficient for two suitable variables and provide brief interpretation, explaining the strength and the direction of the relationship, which can help users understand how these variables influence each other and inform data-driven decisions.

Step #2 – Data Analysis & Presentation of Results

DASHBOARD must include but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Discover THREE meaningful findings from the data set using the PIVOT tables.
  2. At least TWO graphs of a quantitative variable.
  3. At least TWO graphs of a qualitative variable.
  4. At least ONE interactive slicer that enables comparison between 2 observations.
  5. Based on the key insights from the dashboard, identify and explain a significant trend or pattern observed in the data. How can this insight be utilized to enhance decision-making or business strategy?

Step #3 – Format and submission

You are to submit the following in CN

  1. SUBMIT the Report in PDF file
  2. SUBMIT EXCEL worksheet (containing data set, dashboard and analysis)
