Introduction:

Introduce the essay following the order (Maximum 10% total word count 150 words):

  • A general statement about the topic that provides a context for your argument
  • A thesis statement (purpose statement)
  • A road map of the essay (how will you present and develop arguments)

Body:

It elaborates your argument from the Introduction. Present a reasoned case supported by evidence from relevant scholarship written in paragraphs.
Each paragraph should be only 150-200 word to avoid too long or too short paragraphs. Single-sentence paragraphs are abrupt and should be used infrequently.
Paragraphs that are too long (i.e., longer than one double-spaced manuscript page) risk losing readers’ attention.

Each body paragraph should have one main idea that supports the argument from the essay topic which is supported by relevant examples and evidence
from the body of scholarly work on your topic.

Begin the paragraph with a topic sentence (a clear context for the information to follow). A good topic sentence summarizes the main message of the paragraph.

Each paragraph should be coherently structured at the micro level and macro level (in the paragraph and between the paragraphs).

Conclusion:

Approximately 10% of the total word count is 150 words. Include:

  • Summary of the content written
  • Not to add any new information
  • Do not simply repeat yourself.
  • How the topic links to the wider context (Bigger picture) in your discipline
