I intend to reflect on my experiences and learning related to leadershipin this piece; I will discuss relevant leadership theories, analyze my strengthsand weaknesses, and set SMART goals which improve leadership practice(Proberts,2024).
Personal Reflection and Feelings Throughout the past semester
I have been deeply engaged in studying various leadership theories andconcepts. One theory that particularly resonated with me is Transformational Leadership. I found myself inspired by the idea of motivating and inspiringothers to achieve their full potential. This concept aligns with my personal values of fostering growth and development in those around me.
Critical Analysis of Leadership Concepts and Theories
Transformational leadership, as described by Davis et al (2022), emphasizesthe importance of vision, inspiration, and individual consideration. Leaderswho adopt this style are often seen as role models – they focus on the development of their followers. In contrast, Transactional Leadership, whichinvolves a more structured and reward-based approach, seems less effectivein fostering long-term commitment and growth.
Implications for My Leadership Practice Understanding
These theories have significant implications for my leadership practice. I realize that to be an effective leader, I need to go beyond managing tasks andfocus on inspiring and developing my team members. This means activelylistening to their needs, providing constructive feedback, and creating anenvironment where they feel valued and motivated.
Self-Assessment and Identification of Strengths and Weaknesses Through self-assessment questionnaires, such as the Multifactor LeadershipQuestionnaire (MLQ), I have identified my strengths and weaknesses as aleader. My strengths lie in my ability to communicate clearly and build strongrelationships. However, I need to work on my ability to delegate tasks effectively and manage time efficiently
Conclusion
Reflecting on my leadership journey has been an enlightening experience. Bycritically analyzing leadership theories and assessing my strengths and weaknesses, I have identified specific areas for improvement. Setting SMARTgoals will help me develop my leadership practice and ultimately becomeamore effective leader (Banahan,2021). I am committed to continuous learningand growth, and I look forward to implementing these changes in my leadership approach.
